The Intentionalist Study — Intention Academy
Now recruiting participants

Close the gap between your life and the life you want.

A FREE 60-day research study on how people actually do it.

Free to take part. The next group starts in late September.

What you get

Two things you take from the study.

A skill you keep

You learn how to want something clearly enough to act on it, and how to hold on to that when the weeks get busy. It is the part you keep using long after the 60 days are over.

A part in the research

Your 60 days in the study becomes evidence. It gets written up and shared publicly, so that what is learned here makes the process better for the people who come after you. You get a copy of the findings yourself.

It is free because it is research. Dr. David takes no payment for the study and there is nothing to buy at any stage. Everything you share stays confidential, and your name is removed before anything is analysed or published.

People who have done this

Results depend on your engagement. This is a practice, not a quick fix.

Each of them has worked through this method with Dr. David directly. Swipe across to hear what it was like.

What it is

A FREE 60-day research study.

You start by identifying some of the positive qualities, strengths, skills, and experiences you already bring to your life. Then you choose one thing in your life you would like to change, improve, or make progress on. You do not need to know exactly what you want yet.

Over the following 60 days, you will learn to create and use an intention around something that matters to you. Along the way, you will have conversations with an Intention Academy coach, use the Intentionalist, an AI thought partner available whenever you want it, and reflect on what you are learning and experiencing.

Day 1Your first 30-minute online conversation with an Intention Academy coach. You will talk about what you would like to be different, where you are starting, and what to expect during your 60-day Intentionalist Journey. You will then begin working with the Intentionalist to explore what matters to you and develop your intention.
Every 2 weeksA 30-minute conversation with an Intention Academy coach to reflect on your experience, your intention, what you are learning, and what is changing. You will have four to five conversations across the 60 days.
In betweenThe Intentionalist is available anytime as a thought partner. You can use it to ask questions, think through challenges, explore possible actions, reflect on your progress, get motivation, or revise your intention as you learn more about what you want. You will also set aside about 20 minutes each week to work with your intention.
Day 60You will reflect on your experience over the full 60 days: what changed, what you learned about using intention, and whether and how you might continue using it on your own.

What we are trying to learn: how people learn and use intention as a practical life skill over time. We want to understand how people develop and work with an intention, what changes they experience, what helps or gets in the way, and whether they become more able to use intention independently as a life skill.

We are also especially interested in the role of support. What does an AI thought partner contribute? What does a human coach contribute? And what kinds of support help people stay connected to an intention and use it in everyday life? Those are some of the questions the Intention Academy study is designed to explore.

Who runs it

Dr. David has spent 30 years coaching people through change, and has written three books on intention. He runs every session in this study himself.

His view, after 30 years of watching people try, is that the hard part isn't doing the thing. It is getting clear enough about what you want to begin at all.

What the study tests is whether that holds up when someone measures it properly: whether people make the change they came for, whether they end up more satisfied with their lives, and how much of the work an AI guide can usefully take on between sessions.

Fit

This is for you if

  • Something in your life needs to change, whether or not you can name it yet
  • It matters to you personally, rather than being something you feel you ought to do
  • You can commit 60 days to the study
  • You are willing to use an AI as part of the process, even if you are sceptical about it
  • You don't mind your sessions being recorded

This is not for you if

  • You are looking for general life advice
  • You can't commit 60 days to the study
  • You would rather not be recorded
  • You need clinical support right now

This is coaching and research. It is not therapy, and it is not medical care.

Your data

Recorded, anonymised, never sold.

Your sessions are recorded, and your name is removed before anything is analysed or published. You can leave the study at any time, and have your data taken out of the research when you go.

The full detail

Sessions with Dr. David are recorded as audio and transcript. Your conversations with the AI guide and your questionnaire answers are kept too. Together that is the research data.

Before anything is analysed or shared outside the research team, it is de-identified: your name and identifying details are removed or changed. Nothing you say is published in a way that identifies you without your separate written permission. Your conversations with the AI guide are also stored by the platform that runs it.

We do not sell your data and we do not share it for marketing. You can withdraw at any time, without explaining yourself, and you tell us whether to keep your data in the research or take it out.

This pilot does not require formal institutional review board approval. Later stages will be submitted for review if the design calls for it. Ask us anything: [email protected]

Apply

4 questions, about 2 minutes.

After that you book a short call, so you know exactly what you would be taking on before anything is confirmed. Dr. David reads every application himself.
